Tony Petrello: Math Whiz, Attorney, Talented CEO And Generous Philanthropist

Newark, New Jersey native Tony Petrello is chairman and CEO of Nabors Industries, a major oil and gas industry firm. Petrello’s career in that industry came as a surprise to many people that knew him when he was growing up. Tony Petrello was long-known as a math whiz and many expected him to have a career in mathematics. He had earned a scholarship to Yale, studied under noted mathematician Serge Lang, and graduated with a BS and an MS in mathematics. What Petrello did next surprised everyone. When Carena, the daughter of Tony Petrello and his soap opera star and producer wife Cynthia, was diagnosed at birth with periventricular leukomalacia, Petrello sprung into action. He donated $7 million to Texas Children’s Hospital to help them begin building a neurological research institute. He went on to help them raise the hundreds of millions of dollars it took to complete the world-class facility. Tony Petrello has also remained deeply involved in the development and running of the facility which treats children from all over the world suffering with neurological issues.

Tony Petrello has gone on the serve as Texas Children’s Hospital Incorporated’s director. He is also a member of the Texas Children’s Hospital board of trustees. He is a tireless advocate for the development of effective research and clinical programs designed to address the pressing needs of children throughout the world that are the innocent victims of neurological disorders. With his support the hospital’s Jan and Duncan Neurological Research Institute is now a world leader in finding the causes of and treatments for infants, children and brain-damaged youth struggling mental and physical disabilities.
