OSI has a large variety of meat products that includes an assortment of beef, pork, and poultry. They process chicken nuggets, beef patties, sausages, hot dogs and bacon. OSI’s longstanding beef supplying contract with McDonalds has been partly responsible for the fast food chain’s premiere standing in the fast food industry. OSI has a network of 65 production facilities in Asia (China, India, Philippines, Australia, Japan and Taiwan) and Europe (Austria, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Ukraine and the United Kingdom). In North America OSI has facilities in seven of the United States and Canada, as well as Brazil. It’s corporate headquarters are located in Aurora, Illinois.

OSI’s began in 1909 with the imaginings of its founder, Otto Kolschowsky. His shop, Otto & Sons was a family owned meat market and butcher shop in Chicago. In 1955, OSI was chosen as McDonald’s supplier of fresh ground beef. If you consider that McDonald’s opened its first restaurant in 1940, this relationship has been maintained for the last sixty-two years.

McDonald’s used OSI’s capacity to create custom foods when it released its Chicken McNuggets. Chain restaurants often utilize OSI’s ability to make food processing alternatives. They can create made-to-order processed food products from fruits, vegetables, meats and other proteins. Most consumers are familiar with the types of meat and poultry products OSI produces. It’s non-meat products include pizza, tofu, beans, fritters and salsa. The bread line produced by OSI is composed of pizza dough, bread, fresh dough, cookies, crusts, flatbreads and pockets.

OSI is committed to using the specific processing methods needed to develop the required food product. They are equipped to utilize many methods for food processing, offering fresh/frozen, Individually Quick Frozen (IQF), raw, ready to cook and fully cooked. Their preparation methods include grinding, blending and forming as well as trimming, slicing, portioning and stacking.

The OSI Group processes, cooks and packages their food products. They are also very involved with the buying of raw cattle, chicken and pigs meats used in their products. They monitor the quality control of all their slaughtered meats and other foods very closely. By doing so, the company strives to exceed established food quality standards.
