Using Securus Technologies for Keeping Corrections Officers Safe

As a corrections officer, I am well aware that every day I go to work in our jail could be my last. These inmates can be incredibly violent at times, and add into the mix drugs and the accessibility of weapons, and corrections officers are in the line of fire every minute we are at our job. The inmates have every minute of every day to plan, while officers working 8-hour shifts barely have an edge in stopping the violence.

There has been a rise in violence against officers lately, and there are a number of ways we are trying to combat the problem. In order for the inmates to hurt officers, they need to get their hands on weapons. These weapons are brought into the jail by way of visitors sneaking them through security and into the hands of the inmates. Once in the jail, the inmates are very creative at hiding the weapons in their cells or in the yard to use whenever they choose.

Another resource we have been dependent on in the past is monitoring the calls the inmates make on the prison phone system. In the past, those primitive system were unable to do anything for us other than listening to the calls. Today, we use Securus Technologies and their new updated inmate call system that allows us to maximize the power of the LBS software to decipher exactly what the inmates are talking about.

So in the past, the inmates could code their conversations in a way that would instruct someone on the outside to bring in a weapon without us knowing, but today we use Securus Technologies system to break that code and discover who is bringing the weapons to the jail. We have been cutting down on violent incidents ever since the system was installed.
